چکیده

134 words) We examined a large set of conditional inference data compiled from several previous studies and asked three questions: how is normative performance related to intelligence, does negative conclusion bias stem from Type 1 or Type 2 processing, and does implicit negation bias stem from Type 1 or Type 2 processing? Our analysis demonstrated that a) rejecting denial of the antecedent and affirmation of the consequent inferences was positively correlated with intelligence, while endorsing MT inferences was not, b) the occurrence of negative conclusion bias was related to the extent of Type 2 processing, and c) that the occurrence of implicit negation bias was not related to extent of Type 2 processing. We conclude that negative conclusion bias is, at least in part, a product of Type 2 processing while implicit negation bias is not.

Exact Statistical Inference for Some Parametric Nonhomogeneous Poisson Processes

Nonhomogeneous Poisson processes (NHPPs) are often used to model recurrent events, and there is thus a need to check model fit for such models. We study the problem of obtaining exact goodness-of-fit tests for certain parametric NHPPs, using a method based on Monte Carlo simulation conditional on sufficient statistics. A closely related way of obtaining exact confidence intervals in parametri...

Spatial Point Processes and their Applications

A spatial point process is a random pattern of points in d-dimensional space (where usually d = 2 or d = 3 in applications). Spatial point processes are useful as statistical models in the analysis of observed patterns of points, where the points represent the locations of some object of study (e..g. trees in a forest, bird nests, disease cases, or petty crimes). Point processes play a special ...

Statistical Inference and Statistical Mechanics

In this lecture, recent developments on connections between Markov processes and nonequilibrium statistical mechanical systems are discussed. A statistical mechanical analogy is developed for Markov processes and a local entropic measure of their true asymmetry is defined. Introducing partial observations, conditional and joint analogies are developed for Markov processes and their optimal filt...

A System of Interaction and Structure IV: The Exponentials

We study some normalisation properties of the deep-inference proof system NEL, which can be seen both as 1) an extension of multiplicative exponential linear logic (MELL) by a certain non-commutative self-dual logical operator; and 2) an extension of system BV by the exponentials of linear logic. The interest of NEL resides in: 1) its being Turing complete, while the same for MELL is not known,...

Varying-coefficient models with isotropic Gaussian process priors

We study learning problems in which the conditional distribution of the output given the input varies as a function of additional task variables. In varying-coefficient models with Gaussian process priors, a Gaussian process generates the functional relationship between the task variables and the parameters of this conditional. Varying-coefficient models subsume multitask models—such as hierarc...
